Magda Cârneci was born in Romania and is currently deputy director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris. She is a poet and essayist and a translator of French and English poetry. She holds a PhD in art history from EHESS in Paris. Her publications include several volumes of poetry in Romanian, and her work has been translated into English (Chaosmos, tr. Adam Sorkin, White Pine Press, 2006), French (Psaume, various translators, Les écrits des forges, 1997) and Dutch. Magda Cârneci's poetry translations from the English include works by Seamus Heaney, Medbh McGuckian, Menna Elfyn, Fiona Sampson, Allen Ginsberg, Marianne Moore, Sylvia Plath, Christopher Merrill, Caroline Forché and Richard Jackson.
