Ján Uliciansky was born in Bratislava in 1955. Since completing his studies at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts' School of Puppetry in the 1970s, he has worked as a playwright, novelist, theatre director and university lecturer. He has been the president of IBBY's Slovak section since 1997.
