NEW TURKISH POETRY

Unhappy grove

Betül Dünder
Translated by Tozan Alkan
My inborn loneliness made me say what I said
I let many loves go
as I became eternally weary
my heart& the cliff of my tongue

what a good thing it is to start the day
with my mother's hands on the photo
she reminds me once more: don't forget to sing a song!
This I know well, for me, the seas are there to drown in
but I always survived thanks to my loneliness
I have been called so many names by other children

my heart! even the ambulances make way for you
