Dimitris TsoumplekaseDIMITRIS TSOUMPLEKAS was born in 1967, and lives and works in Athens and Berlin.
In 2009 he featured in the group exhibitions 'La premiere Image', in Languedoc-Roussillon (C.R.A.C.); 'Remap 2', (a parallel project to Athens Biennale 2) in Athens; and 'Face to Faces', at the 2nd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art (curated by Angeliki Grammatikopoulou-Barbaut and Isabelede Montfumat).
His nine solo exhibitions since 1996 have been shown across Europe, the U.S. and Cuba, and include 'Family Affairs' in Thessaloniki and Athens in 2008; 'Die Gas, eine Familiengeschichte', in Berlin in 2005, and others such as Future Athens (2004), and Open Kitchen-(Broken Homes) in Stuttgart and Athens (2003 and 2001). His work has been described as dealing with the complexities of tradition coexisting with modernization, and
the gap between nostalgia and anticipation.
He has also received residencies or grants from the Stiftung Kunstlerdorf Schoeppingen (2005), and the Ecole Nationale de la Photographie, Arles (1995).
