Murat Gülsoy

Murat Gülsoy (born 1967) started his literary career as a publisher and magazine writer at Hayalet Gemi (Ghost Ship) in 1992. His work explores the metafictional potentials of self-consciousness, and he has produced interactive hypertext works exploring new forms of narrative. Gülsoy has published 12 books in Turkey, including short stories and three novels addressing modern masters such as Kafka, Borges, Eco, Stern, Fowles and Orhan Pamuk. A recipient of Turkey’s most prestigious national literary awards, Gülsoy also works as a biomedical engineer, psychologist, creative writing teacher and is chairperson of the Bogazici University Press editorial board. His short story collection Bu Kitabı Çalın (Steal This Book) was the first of his works to be published in German translation, while his last novel, İstanbul’da Bir Merhamet Haftası (A Week of Kindness in Istanbul), has been published in Chinese, Macedonian, Romanian, and Bulgarian.
