Alison Layland from Llangynog in Montgomeryshire is a commercial translator who recently turned to fiction. She is the English language winner of the 2010 Translation Challenge jointly organised by Translators' House Wales and Oxfam Cymru, and was presented with a Bardic Staff by the Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones AM, as part of Tŷ Newydd’s 21st birthday celebrations.

She was one of thirty-six entrants for the competition to translate from French an extract from the short story, La folie était venue avec la pluie, by Haitian author, Yanick Lahens.
